St-Malo may have a high concentration of hotels located within the citadel but even these are exceeded
by the sheer number of restaurants. Here, strong demand means prices are as high as anywhere in Brittany.
As one might expect from a seaport such as St-Malo, many of the eateries specialise
in seafood and fresh fish. Whilst this can push up the
cost of a set menu it is still possible to
eat on a budget in the many creperies.
In addition to the restaurants in the Old Town it is possible to find high quality places to eat outside the walls in St-Severan
and along the main beach promenade to the east.

Intra-Muros (Within the Walls)
1. Le Chalut

Stylish restaurant a short distance from the Porte St-Vincent gate with seafood dominating the menu.
Local fresh produce is a main theme here with dishes including John Dory on a bed of potato mash with morels mushrooms and sea bass with sherry sauce and braised endives.
Set menus range from 25 to 62 EUR.
2. La Duchesse Anne
5, Place Guy Lachambre - 02 99 40 85 33.
Old fashioned traditional French restaurant with two Michelin stars located next to the Porte St-Vincent.
Top class food in fine surroundings at the upper end of the price spectrum. A la carte and one set menu of champagne, oysters, lobster
and cheeses that weighs in at 75 EUR. Well paced attentive service.
6, Rue Sainte Barbe - 02 99 40 92 46.
Tucked inside the walls down from Porte St-Vincent, the Delaunay is another restaurant serving high quality French cuisine in refined surroundings. Great emphasis is placed on the freshest local produce with dishes such as sea bass tartare with oysters and nut oil,
lamb sourced from Mont St-Michel and scallops foie gras marinated in chouchen. Extensive wine cellar.
4. Bouche en Folie
14, Rue du boyer - 06 72 49 08 89.
A small French restaurant situated just inside the Porte des Bes and away from the more touristy parts of St-Malo. Creative dishes at reasonable prices with a set lunch for 12 EUR
and the option of two evening menus at 22 or 28 EUR.
5. L'Entre Deux Verres
7, Rue Grands Degres - 02 99 40 18 91.
A short distance from the Grande Porte, L'Entre Deux Verres is a friendly and intimate restaurant serving inventive French dishes such as
casserole of sea bream in shellfish sauce, duck with plum sauce and scallops in butter and orange sauce with truffle flavoured mashed potatoes.
6. Restaurant Gilles
2, Rue Pie qui Boit - 02 99 40 97 25.
Good value, welcoming restaurant with modern decor serving fish and seafood specialities. Two set menus of 20 and 23 EUR available.
7. Creperie du Corps de Gardes
3, Montee Notre Dame - 02 99 40 91 46.
Set on the city walls in an old observation post, the terrace of this creperie has great views over the
Plage de Bon Secours to the small nearby islands. Good galettes and crepes including the tasty ice cream and hot chocolate with coconut.
8. Creperie Margaux 3, Place Marché aux Legumes - 02 99 20 26 02.
A small friendly eatery set in a quiet square. Nice crepes and gallettes including apple cider, ratatouille and caramel sauce.
Efficient service with outside seating.
Outside the Walls
9. Brasserie du Sillon
3, Chaussée du Sillon - 02 99 56 10 74.
Situated about 1 km from the walls of St-Malo, on the promenade of Sillon beach with views out to sea.
Wide range of good value fresh seafood and meat dishes to suit most budgets. An example four course menu costs 32 EUR and includes a seafood platter. Friendly service.
10. Les Embruns

Located just a few metres from Sillon beach close to Brasserie du Sillon,
Les Embruns is a pleasant restaurant serving a selection of French dishes. Four set menus ranging from 19.50 to 70 EUR.
11. Le Saint Placide
6, Place Poncel - 02 99 81 70 73.
Le Saint Placide can be found in the district of St-Severan to the south of St-Malo citadel.
This welcoming one star Michelin restaurant has a modern and elegant interior. The menu contains innovative dishes
including tarragon scampi with artichoke and lobster risotto with bacon. Set menus start at 25 EUR and go up to 78 EUR.
